Red Wine Stains-The Preiser Key to Napa Valley

Carpet: A beige carpet sample was divided into 8 equal sections, each stained with approximately 2 ounces of red wine, and allowed to dry for 6 days. On the day of the test, a second, fresh wine stain was applied to each section.

Carbonated Water: Removed most of the new stain when sponged, blotted and lightly rubbed. Doing the same to the old stain removed most of it, but required more rubbing.

Salt: (Sprinkle liberally over satin, dry, then vacuum) Removed fresh stain leaving only a slight tinge of color. No effect on dry stain until dampened with water. It then lightened considerably.

Foamy Shaving Cream: (Apply, scrape with spatula, and rinse) Surprisingly easy and effective. Both old and new stains were removed.

Peroxide Mixed With A Drop of Liquid Detergent: (Dab on, allow it to sit for 15 minutes, rinse, and blot) Removed both surface stains with little effort.

White Wine: (Soak stain, blot, repeat until stain is gone) Effective on both stains, but required a lot of wine, several blotting cloths, and a lot of labor. Costliest of techniques.

Oxy Clean Orange Glo International: (Follow manufacturer's instructions-mix 1/8 scoop to 16oz of water remove excess liquid, squirt solution onto spot, let stand 5-30 minutes, rinse thoroughly with water, blot, and vacuum when dry) After 5 minutes of blotting, the fresh stain was gone. After 5 minutes, the old stain turned brown- we blotted and reapplied. Five minutes more then blot again, and the old stain disappeared.

Wine Away Evergreen Labs: (Follow manufacturer's instructions- spray stain, let stand for 30 seconds, rub until stain disappears, and follow with rag or sponge moistened with water to remove any residue) After 30 seconds and rubbing, the new stain was mostly gone. After blotting with water only a tinge of color was left. The old stain was only slightly less affected, leaving a slightly larger, darker tinge area.

Wine Out The Gonzo Corp. : (Follow manufacturer's instructions- spray onto stain without oversaturating, allow to penetrate carpet fiber, place absorbent white towel over area, apply pressure to absorb stain, wipe with water, moisten cloth to remove residue, and repeat as necessary) Fresh stain removed in one treatment the old stain in two.
